The teacher introduced us to our mission which is to create the following information resources/services for the needs of refugees. ( Opettaja perehdytti meidät tehtäväämme joka on luoda informaatioresursseja pakolaisten tarpeisiin. )

A refugee ( w:fi:pakolainen ) is a person who is outside their home country because they have suffered (or feared) persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, or political opinion; because they are a member of a persecuted social category of persons; or because they are fleeing a war. Such a person may be called an "asylum seeker" until recognized by the state where they make a claim.^[1] ( Wikipedia )

Pakolainen on yleiskielessä henkilö, joka joutuu syntyperänsä, uskontonsa, mielipiteidensä tms. vuoksi vainoa peläten pakenee vieraaseen maahan.^[2]

Kaikki kotimaastaan paenneet eivät ole pakolaisia. Jotta ihminen määriteltäisiin pakolaiseksi, hänelle on täytynyt myöntää pakolaisen asema eli pakolaisstatus.^[3]

Pakolaisuutta koskee ja sitä määrittelee Geneven pakolaissopimus vuodelta 1951 ja sen pöytäkirja vuodelta 1967.^[4]

Määritelmän mukaan eivät esimerkiksi sota, nälänhätä tai ympäristökatastrofi ole varsinaisesti pakolaiseksi oikeuttavia syitä. Mutta sen sijaan huoltajan puuttuminen; esimerkiksi orpous tai sotaorpous on. Yleissopimuksen mukaan pakolaista ei voida palauttaa maahan, jossa hänen henkeään tai vapauttaan uhataan. ( Wikipedia )

Jubo-jubo's review of video editing software - My favorites are naturally the FOSS and/or run on GNU/Linux video editors. The only one I have actual hands on experience is w:kdenlive which is readily available for all *NIX flavours ( GNU/Linux, OS X, FreeBSD )
